How we work with sustainability
As the cornerstone of our foundation, sustainability is the basis for everything we do. Our sustainability approach involves minimizing our environmental impact using eco-friendly materials and working with manufacturers that use eco-friendly and responsible production methods to make the fashion we like. As well, this involves looking at our own business practices and partnering with like-minded companies who share our vision for a cleaner, more ethical fashion industry and social environment.
Our 4 pillars of sustainability
Ethical & certified sourcing & production
In order to be good for the environment around us we require to take responsibility for all the steps within our fashion chain. We do this by only working with partners that are certified or working in an eco-friendly way, ensuring environmental criteria are met and third-party inspection of all processing stages of the fashion chain.
Our bamboo shirts and polo's are made in a GOTS- and SEDEX-certified production facility whereby the full supply chain works in an eco-friendly and closed-loop environment.
Eco-friendly fabric
By committing to working only with eco-friendly fabrics like bamboo we create fashion which is more sustainable for our planet and make you feel better about what you wear. Moving forward, besides bamboo we aim to introduce collections using other eco-friendly fabrics like organic cotton and lyocell.
How we reduce our own carbon footprint
As sustainable lifestyle brand it is foremost our duty to look at ourselves and minimize where we can. First of all, we do this by seeking ways to reduce and simplify our supply chain and product assortment.
Secondly, important to reduce our business's environmental impact is by making sure we package and ship using eco-friendly materials. This is what that means;
- No usage of plastic packaging
- No air shipments of bulk orders
- Within The Netherlands and Belgium we ship the orders to you with Homerr, ensuring a 79% reduction in CO2.
Social responsibility
We aim to make a positive impact in our own environment as well as where we produce. By ensuring ethical standards and fair labor practices and wages for all the steps in the fashion chain we avoid exploitation. Part of this we have the aim to:
- Become a B-Corp certified organization
- Donate 5% of our proceedings to green initiatives
Bamboo, more than just a fabric
Bamboo, better for nature and you
At Robumi, we prioritize working with fabric that is generated via natural and renewable crops and are self-sustainable. Examples hereof are hemp, linen, wool, organic cotton, beachwood and bamboo, along with lyocell and Tencel. Among these, bamboo is the cornerstone of our collection. We cherish bamboo both for its unique natural benefits as a tree as well as for the unique fabric that can be made from it.
- Bamboo fiber is a remarkable material due to its unique properties and eco-friendly nature. This remarkable plant is one of the fastest-growing and most renewable resources on the planet, thriving with minimal water and requiring no pesticides.
- Its natural properties make it an ideal choice for sustainable fashion— bamboo fabric is both soft, breathable, durable and kind to both your skin and the environment.
Both aspects together make bamboo an excellent eco-friendly choice for those who are conscious about reducing their carbon footprint whilst not compromising on quality and durability. As well, it is a commitment to a more sustainable fashion. A step away from conventional materials like (organic) cotton or synthetic fibers like polyester that are derived from oil products, which is both bad for the environment as well as unsustainable in the long run. With concerns regarding microplastics, recycled synthetic fibers are neither the solution.
Hence, going for bamboo is a contribution to a greener and healthier choice for body and mind.

Bamboo crop features
Renowned for its rapid growth and sustainability, as a regenerative resource, bamboo is one of the most sustainable materials available in nature and thrives in it's natural habitat, the tropical rainforest. Some standout features include:
- Self-regenerative, fast growing & renewable
- Lower environmental impact
- Carbon absorbtion
-
Bamboo clothing features
Surprisingly from such a strong tree as bamboo, bamboo fabric is incredibly versatile. Most notable about bamboo fabric is its softness, breathability, antibacterial properties, durability, and eco-friendliness.
- super soft, making it perfect for everyday wear
- Exceptional breathability, allowing excellent ventilation
- Naturally hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skin

The bottom line
We like bamboo for its;
- Natural presence in nature, fast-growing and renewable characteristics
- Requiring no to minimal water or pesticides
- It's carbon sequestation, allowing the bamboo crop to absorb more carbon dioxide and releasing more oxygen than many trees.
Bamboo offers numerous advantages over cotton but also over synthetic fibers like nylon and polyester;
- Environmentally more sustainable (especially vs. nylon and polyester)
- highly absorbent (up to 3x more than cotton)
- antibacterial & hypoallergenic (perfect for any skin and allergies)
- soft yet durable (maintaining quality, strength and shape wash over wash)
- No microplastics (polyester and nylon are cheap fabric alternatives but harm the environment more then we think, even recycled polyester clothing)
By choosing sustainable fabrics like bamboo, you are not only making an investment in quality products but also contributing to a greener and healthier planet.
